April Showers Bring Lemon Verbena Leaves

Last night we had ANOTHER 1.25" of rain, which is filling up Lake Texoma (a mile from us) and bringing groundwater levels up, at long last.

Tomato transplants in the main garden are not enjoying the frequent hard rains, but our Lemon Verbena is smugly snug in its safe surroundings, stacked in plastic produce crates inside the garden enclosure.

Thanks again to Leon Sloan in Kingston, OK for the produce crate suggestion. They are working out well for growing and transporting plants in 4" plastic pots.

The heavy rain didn't cause too much flooding last night, since we drilled holes in the galvanized pool enclosure, allowing most of the rain water to drain. Our crates full of Lemon Verbena stayed high and dry in the deluge, covered with galvanized tin and crates holding older plants in gallon-size pots, strong enough to survive heavy rainfall.

What a great way to grow young plants, still needing protection from hard rain and the constant threat of damaging winds and hail.
