Today 125 little Lemon Verbena plants are reaching for the light as they root in their tiny greenhouse, which is a clear plastic tub turned upside-down.
It's cloudy (yes, it's raining again here in flooded north Texas) so I also set up a fluorescent lamp to enhance the natural light coming in through the window.
This is the time of year to start taking cuttings because the plants are naturally involved in putting out tremendous growth. It's a natural time to propagate Lemon Verbena vegetatively, from stem cuttings. And it's the only way to start new plants at home, not from the tiny, insignificant seeds.
I'm following the example of my plant propagation mentor, Gabriele Stoll in Germany. She's in the midst of a MUCH bigger project, however, rooting 15,000 Lemon Verbena plants for her organic, biodynamic, commercial dried-leaf production.
